The Dnipropetrovsk Oblast is located in southeastern Ukraine. The area of the oblast (31,974 km2) comprises about 5.3% of the total area of the country. Its longitude from north to south is 130 km, from east to west – 300 km.

The average temperature in the winter balances from −3 to −5 °C and in the summer from 22 to 24 °C. The average annual rainfall is 400–490 mm. During the summer, Dnipropetrovsk oblast is very warm (average day temperature in July is 24 to 28 °C (75 to 82 °F), even hot sometimes 34 to 38 °C (90 to 97 °F). Temperatures as high as 36 °C (97 °F) have been recorded in May. Winter is not so cold (average day temperature in January is −3 to 0 °C (25 to 32 °F), but when there is no snow and the wind blows hard, it feels extremely cold. A mix of snow and rain happens usually in December.

January and February are the coldest months with temperature at around -6°c.

June and May receive most rainfall with precipitation count of 106.45mm.

Dnipro's 2021 population is now estimated at 951,821.

The city has a variety of theatres (plus an Opera) and museums of interest to tourists, including the Dmytro Yavornytsky National Historical Museum. There are also several parks, restaurants and beaches.

Much of Ukrainian politics continues to be defined by the legacies of Leonid Kuchma and Yulia Tymoshenko, whose intermingled political careers started in Dnipro (former Dnipropetrovsk).

The Dnipro State Medical University was founded on September 15, 1916 from the Ekaterynoslavsky higher female courses Institute. The Institute acquired the status of State Academy in 1920 and it became the Dnipro State Medical University (DSMU) in Ukraine in 1994.

In total, the Academy employs over 1100 employees.
